Comerica Incorporated (NYSE:CMA) proudly announced today that for the sixth consecutive year, it received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2019 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation. Comerica joins the ranks of more than 560 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year.

Currently, 515 companies worldwide are engaged in setting and validating SBTs through the Science Based Targets Initiative—a steep increase from the 14 companies who were engaged in this process four years ago.

Can We Reduce GHG Emissions by 60 Percent?

In 2016, we set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) from our offices, data centers and small vehicle fleet (otherwise known as scope 1 and 2 emissions) by 30 percent by 2025. By focusing investments on energy conservation and more efficient use of space, Symantec achieved a 32 percent reduction in just three years, surpassing our goal seven years early.

Building on our success, we are participating in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The SBTi, a collaboration between CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute, and the World Wildlife Fund, champions science-based target setting as a powerful way of boosting companies’ competitive advantage in the transition to the low-carbon economy.

I hate to garden. I am the type of person who would rather sit at my desk on a sunny summer day than plant seeds, pull weeds, or harvest anything. So it will surprise those who know me best that I just finished a ‘20-year’ stint as the Director of Forestry in Uruguay, on a team that launched a successful bio-products ‘business’ on the Rio Negro River outside of the city of Mercedes, and I loved every minute of it.

Those ‘20 years’ went by in a flash—it seemed like a mere two months. Eight weeks, in fact.

That’s how long it takes to earn a certificate for Leading Sustainable Innovation, a completely virtual, albeit intense and rigorous, new program offered by the University of Vermont (UVM), home to one of the top “green” MBA programs in the world.

It all began when one of my team members and I were at our first Global Communicators Conference in Wiesbaden, Germany, following the acquisition of the company that we had been working for. It was an awe-inspiring experience, mainly because our new company — Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany — was launching a completely new brand and this was one of the first internal events to showcase the new look, feel and messaging. In light of this new approach, we formed teams to come up with new ideas that supported our new brand. Team Viacom Joins the Fight against Cancer with Cycle for Survival

Cycle for Survival was founded by Jennifer Goodman Linn and her husband Dave Linn. Jen had previously worked as the SVP of Brand Marketing at Nickelodeon where she led the brand and its overall company initiatives. In addition, she worked on the marketing for pro-social initiatives, spearheaded the company's multicultural marketing efforts, and oversaw consumer and trade advertising. At the age of 33, Jen was diagnosed with MFH sarcoma and led a courageous seven-year battle with a rare form of cancer. After a fearless fight, Jen passed away in July 2011, but her legacy continues to live on to help fund groundbreaking discoveries in cancer research.
