Does Your Food Safety Auditor Have the Right Stuff?

Conformance with food safety standards throughout the supply chain is now a fact of doing business. Certification standards targeting farms, facilities, and retailers – SQF, GLOBALG.A.P, BRC, ISO 22000, FSC 22000, Harmonized Good Agricultural Practice (GAP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) – all provide guidance to help companies and customers steer clear of food safety crises. Dig deeper, however, and you’ll discover one key factor often overlooked– namely, auditor competence. Ultimately, it’s up to the auditor to interpret the standard’s intent during the farm or facility assessment. It’s like the difference between a good cook and a great chef – it’s not just about following the recipe, but about bringing a critical eye to the process, a combination of expertise and instinct.

SAGE and Citi Community Development Announce Expansion of SAGE LGBT Elder Housing Initiative that Boosts Access to Safe, Affordable Housing for Seniors

Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) and Citi Community Development announced today a major expansion of SAGE’s LGBT Elder Housing initiative. Launched last year, the SAGE LGBT Elder Housing Initiative is a comprehensive national program to expand access to safe, affordable, and welcoming housing for LGBT older adults. The Initiative supports LGBT older adults in existing senior housing while simultaneously accelerating the development of housing specifically designed for them. SAGE has named Kelly W. Kent as Director of its National LGBT Elder Housing Initiative to implement and scale SAGE’s strategy within affordable housing projects and promote best practices for building inclusive housing.

“Almost 43 percent of the global youth labor force is either unemployed or working, yet living in poverty,” according to Global Employment Trends for Youth 2015 by the International Labour Organization. In countries with mature economies, nearly one in five students don’t acquire a minimum level of basic skills needed to be gainfully employed.

A striking trend juxtaposes the un- and underemployed young people around the world. According to PwC’s 18th Annual Global CEO Survey of 1300 leaders, CEOs now find it so difficult to identify people with the skills to grow their business that 75 percent rank the skills shortage as the number one threat to their success. Forty percent of global employers report a talent shortage in their organization, according to the Manpower Group.

Cox Enterprises Creates Clean Energy in West Virginia

Cox Enterprises announced today the completion of the New River Energy Facility in Beckley, W. Va. The facility captures landfill gas to generate energy and reduce methane emissions, which produces positive outcomes for the local community and the environment.
