In this episode of the Champions for Social Good Podcast, we sit with Francoise Girard, President of the International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC), which focuses on advancing women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. IWHC, in coordination with other members of the UN Women’s Major Group, worked to ensure that women’s rights played a major role in the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, resulting in gender equality being assigned its own SDG in addition to being incorporated within all 17 goals. Domtar Sustainability: Pulling Our Weight

Unlike their counterparts in Pulp and Paper, our logistics colleagues in Personal Care don’t have a weight problem. Quite the opposite, they struggle to put it on.

Optimizing transportation efficiency is the objective for both of our divisions. They both strive to get the most product in a trailer. One is weight constrained. The other has a space issue.

The reason for the difference is that personal care products are lightweight. It is easy to fill a trailer and be well within the regulated weight limit. The challenge for our logistics colleagues in Personal Care is how to max out the allowable weight limit.

Learning to Thrive in a New Environment: the Perspective From Cambridge

On a surprisingly sunny Sunday afternoon, 21 students from 17 different countries all arrived in Cambridge. Each of us came from a unique background, armed with distinctive outlooks on life, but we all shared the same unequivocal curiosity and passion that science demands. The earlier arrivals amongst us (including me) formed a welcome party for those yet to come, taking the time to introduce ourselves.

CITGO and Ocean Exploration Trust Select E. K. Key Elementary Teacher as 2017 CITGO Nautilus Ambassador

Katherine Gertz, a fourth-grade science teacher at E. K. Key Elementary in Sulphur, Louisiana, was selected to be a 2017 CITGO Nautilus Ambassador. In August, she joined fellow Ambassadors aboard Exploration Vessel Nautilus to study the central California coast alongside scientists and engineers as part of the Ocean Exploration Trust’s (OET) Community STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Program.

Arrow Electronics’ Chief Strategy Officer Cathy Morris was honored with a distinguished alumni award earlier this month from the Colorado State University Alumni Association. Morris, who graduated from CSU in 1980 with a B.S. in finance and real estate, received the “College of Business Honor Alumna” award for her work guiding innovation forward at Colorado’s largest company by revenue, Arrow Electronics (NYSE:ARW).

PepsiCo Recycling Increases Sustainability Funding to Colleges and Universities

PepsiCo Recycling is expanding its second year of the Zero Impact Fund, which offers eligible* colleges and universities an opportunity to bring campus eco-innovations to life. Through the Zero Impact Fund, schools can submit ideas to accomplish their environmental goals, with winning applications receiving up to $10,000 each from PepsiCo Recycling. In its first year, the Zero Impact Fund received applications from more than 40 different campuses and awarded grants to eight schools.
