Fighting Hunger With Pro Bono, Part 2

September is Hunger Action Month. A month to take action, spread the word, and dedicate ourselves to ending hunger. In honor of this month, and as part of our hunger initiative--Accelerate Change--Taproot is releasing inspiring stories of pro bono making an impact. Thanks to support from Alliance to End Hunger, we're showcasing how three organizations are taking advantage of expertise to do everything from effectively providing healthy meals and expanding access to fresh food, to increasing the promotion of regional food distribution, education, and advocacy to those who need it.

The Sustainable Development Goals Turn Two: the Future of Pro Bono for Ending Hunger

As a founding member of Impact2030, and on the 2nd anniversary of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Taproot is committed to seeing progress made toward this ambitious global agenda. Specifically we’re interested in SDG2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

Giving Nonprofits What They Want

You’ve probably read a restaurant review on Yelp. How many comments are about the food? About the host’s reception? About the attentiveness of the waiter? I used to just read the food reviews and not care too much about the others, but it’s the combination of all of these factors that create my restaurant experience. The food can be outstanding, but if the host made me wait 2 hours to get it and the waiter spilled it on me, I’m probably not having a nice dinner out.

Taproot Foundation Launches New Resource to Meet the Evolving Needs of Nonprofits

The nature of how nonprofits serve their communities is changing, and the Taproot Foundation is stepping up to meet the challenge with its new program: Taproot Team Projects. Taproot recognizes that most organizations tackling social problems don’t have access to the marketing, design, technology, HR, or strategic planning resources they need.

Skills-Based Volunteering: A Game Changer for Corporate Philanthropy

New research from Common Impact, a nonprofit that pioneered corporate skills-based volunteering (SBV), demonstrates the sustained impact that SBV has on the social sector by creating transformational partnerships between nonprofits and companies.

Becoming an Employer of "Choice"

Thanks to today’s diverse and socially conscious workforce—and driven by the rise of Millennials—people are increasingly demanding more meaning and purpose in their workplace. This has led to a shift towards employee-centered and team-based volunteering programs, as companies capitalize on the powerful relationship between increased purpose at work, higher employee engagement and greater skills and leadership development.

Skills-based volunteering programs are picking up steam. In fact, according to the 2016 CECP Giving in Numbers report, they’re currently the fastest growing type of corporate volunteer program. Fifty-four percent of companies now encourage their people to offer their specialized skills and talents to charities on a pro bono basis.
