Black Friday: a day marked with early store openings, long lines and hefty discounts. It has long been known as the biggest shopping day of the year and according to ShopperTrak’s annual list, 2016 will be no different. Yet in recent years there have been rumblings of change in the retail world. Even USA Today pondered the trajectory of the shopping holiday in an article released this week, asking “Is Black Friday Dead?”

This was the initial thought that crossed my mind as I approached this year’s Global Youth Economic Opportunities Summit, the tenth annual conference presented by Making Cents International. However, these thoughts were quickly replaced by the acknowledgement that youth are more than the promise of the future. They are powerful individuals. Indeed, they are a force, and it is our collective challenge to ensure that they are a force for good.

Enactment of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (LCSA) in June marked the first substantial change to United States chemical regulation since the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was passed in 1976.
As these new LCSA provisions are implemented by the EPA, chemical manufacturers will need to adjust internal standards and risk management guidelines regarding the way individual chemicals are manufactured, processed and used. Antea Group is committed to assisting our clients in evaluating LCSA reforms and meeting associated regulatory obligations, and we have prepared this white paper to help make sense of the true impact and import of the new regulations, and look at recent developments now that the dust has settled a bit.

The franchise business model has been around for decades and generally allows entrepreneurs to purchase an agreement or license to market a product or service while using the trademark of a larger company. Of the 6,500 restaurants in the Wendy’s system, only about 400 are currently owned by The Wendy’s Company. The majority are owned and operated by Wendy’s franchisees: small business owners who are working hard to grow the economy, create jobs, and give something back to their local communities.

For that reason, MetLife Foundation, the charitable arm of MetLife Inc., pivoted to a focus on financial inclusion in 2013.

It wasn’t that long ago that computers were work-place only appliances, but today we (and our families) walk around with immensely powerful computers in our pockets. Our smartphones are powered by millions of apps and connected to a modern and mobile internet that enables us to do about, well, anything! These devices make it possible for us to connect with friends around the world, stay informed with the news anywhere, make payments, control the lights and temperature in our homes and even hail cars (which will soon be driven by computers as well).
