Loukoumi the Lamb Inspires a Good Deeds Movement, Encouraging Children to Make a Difference
Some 15 years ago, Nick Katsoris was inspired to write a series of children’s books featuring Loukoumi, a cuddly lamb named after the sweet Greek candy. And in 2009, he released “Loukoumi’s Good Deeds,” which encourages children to make a difference by pledging to do good in their communities. The book blossomed into a movement, with the launch of the Loukoumi Make A Difference Foundation, which engages thousands of children each year to make a difference in the lives of others.

The New York Accelerator launches its latest programme next week, welcoming the next cohort of start-ups to its 13-week mentor-driven experience. The Accelerator, run in partnership between Barclays and Techstars, offers fintech entrepreneurs unprecedented access not only to a leading world bank, but also to Techstars mentor and investor relationships. The programme ends with ‘Demo Day’ – an opportunity to pitch to the influential tech community. Barclays also runs Accelerators in locations in London, Tel Aviv and Cape Town.

American Express Climbs 30 Spots to Top Best Adoption-Friendly Workplace List
Each year the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption recognizes the nation’s employers that offer the best adoption benefits to employees.
This year, American Express topped the list by overhauling its adoption benefits package for employees. The first place company offers $35,000 in financial reimbursement for the costs of the adoption and 20 weeks of paid leave to employees to bond with their children.

Changing Lives, One Teenager at a Time
“You’re never too old for family” is a sentiment the Harris family takes to heart as they focus on fostering and adopting older youth. Dallas had been in foster care for five years, and joined her forever family at age 11. Soon after, The Harris family opened their home to another teen, Paula, who was in and out of foster care for nine years. She was adopted at age 14. Paula and Dallas are thriving with their forever family, and the Harris family continues to foster teens!
