Companies have an obligation to operate ethically and treat workers, customers and the general public fairly, and HP is proud to promote respect for human rights in all of the company’s operations. This year, Human Rights Day marks the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the historic proclamation that established the fundamental freedoms of conscience, speech, religion and others belonging to every citizen of the planet, regardless of the laws of the countries where they live. (You can hear then First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who chaired the drafting committee, reading from the moving preamble here.)

Deirdre Hollman always read the funny pages in the newspaper growing up, but didn’t really get into comics until she had a child of her own. She saw that her son liked DC and Marvel comics like Nightwing and Batman, and Hollman wanted to diversify his reading material. She headed to Harlem to pick up a few comic books featuring black characters so her son could see some heroes who looked like him.

The CEO of Girl Rising is Making the World a Better Place for Girls, One Story at a Time
It's not unusual for a movie to win awards, get rave reviews and win big (or lose) at the box office. But it's not every day one helps to change the world. Girl Rising is a film that became a powerful movement and gave filmmaker Christina Lowery the role of a lifetime. Now the CEO of a globally recognized non-profit with connections to Michelle Obama and support from Meryl Streep, Alicia Keys, Priyanka Chopra and Freida Pinto, Lowery's work is to show communities the power of education, get girls in school and keep them there. The reason: Educating girls is the single most powerful way to end global poverty.
