Barclays Sponsors Women's Business Council Report to Explore UK Skills Gap

For a long time, organisations have focused on young generations as a way to bring in new talent. Recruitment trends emphasise the hiring and retention of millennials, despite the fact that our population is formed of multiple generations and that the workforce is ageing. We are also seeing changes in the needs of the workforce, with more workers needing time out of work for various reasons at different points in their career. How can we ensure we are not missing or excluding this talent?

Sociology Professor Helps Students Bridge the Generation Gap With Service

Finding a common thread between generations can sometimes be difficult these days. So, when one of Dr. Keith Whitworth’s students brought Cycling Without Age to his attention, he immediately jumped at the opportunity to bring the program to Texas Christian University.

The Secret to Aging Well

I just turned 60. It’s an interesting age. Passed the years of fearing the “F’s” (The Big 40 & 50), I have found this birthday easy to embrace. I’m more confident and knowledgeable and less insecure about the march of time across my limbs. I am ready to grow with age, not fight it. Part of this is maturity, part anticipation of senior discounts and part from the insights I benefit from in my line of work.

Supporting and Honoring Our Veterans

With Veteran’s Day just around the corner, we wanted to pause and take a moment to reflect and share our thanks to those who’ve dedicated their lives in service to our great country. We’re proud of the many men and women in the armed forces who’ve fought and continue to fight for freedom.

Social Media Isn’t All Broken

This week on the news, I saw Congress grill social media executives. I heard about the spread of fake news and the negative things that social media has wrought. There was lots of focus on young people and how they use these forums – I even heard one report when an expert being interviewed mentioned that he was an undergraduate.

I won’t disagree that there are negatives about social media, but I do want to point out a different perspective that comes from my work.

My industry and the population we serve are often considered out of the loop on technology. But, the truth is social media has become a huge benefit in the lives of many people old enough to be that undergraduate’s grandparents.

eBay Releases 2016 Diversity & Inclusion Report

This is the first Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Report that we’ve issued since spinning off PayPal in 2015. Given the impact we knew this organizational change would have on our culture, size and business strategy, we made a deliberate decision to wait until we had at least a full year as a standalone company behind us before issuing this report.
