Sodexo Emphasizes the Importance of Childhood Health and Wellness Through Support of Marine Corps Marathon Kids Run

Sodexo, world leader in Quality of Life Services and a partner to the United States Marine Corps, joined forces with that organization last weekend in support of its annual Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Kids Run. This event, a one-mile just-for-fun run for kids age 5-12, is an annual lead-up activity to the largest marathon in the world that doesn't offer prize money. Sodexo has sponsored the event since 2003.

Helping Children Lead Healthier Lives is More Important Than Ever

Today, more than 2 billion people in the world are overweight or obese and 800 million are malnourished. Malnutrition, in every form, presents significant threats to human health.

Children are particularly affected by malnutrition. In 2016, over 41 million under the age of 5 and over 340 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 were overweight or obese. During the last 3 decades the number of overweight children has doubled among 2 to 5 year old children.

This is a crisis in the making, requiring urgent action by stakeholders from all sectors.

Helping Youth Build a Healthier East Durham Community With EDCI and GSK

Over the next two years, with the support of a $600,000 grant from GSK, 120 young people will join the YLC and improve their health by focusing on nutrition and physical activity, emotional well-being, community safety and sexual health.

Malnutrition Mapping Project Featured by Harvard Kennedy School

The Malnutrition Mapping Project, a joint effort by Amway and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), is now featured in a Business Partnership Case Study by the Harvard Kennedy School. GSK Supports Healthy Eating After-School with Vetri Cooking Lab

Yesterday, GSK Senior Vice President & General Counsel, Daniel Troy, announced a $440,000 grant to Vetri Community Partnership, alongside Founder Chef Marc Vetri and CEO Marlene Olshan, at Dr. Tanner G. Duckrey Public School in North Philly.

The grant will expand Vetri Cooking Lab, an after-school nutrition and cooking education program, to 1,200 students across the region. Vetri Cooking Lab teaches young people how to cook their own healthy, delicious meals using ingredients they can find in their own neighborhoods to form healthy eating habits for life!

A decommissioned school bus, a relic from the Springfield school district, sits behind the greenhouse operated by the Keney Park Sustainability Project, which Virgo directs. By Thanksgiving, the bus’ transformation will be complete, creating a mobile teaching kitchen, a roving oasis to bring relief to the food deserts of Hartford’s poorest neighborhoods.
