Hammers pounded, saws cut, cranes lifted trusses, and St. Joseph County, Indiana, residents like Anneliese Bennett literally built a new life for themselves in Mishawaka, Indiana. The future Habitat for Humanity homeowner built her house alongside a group of 1,773 Habitat for Humanity volunteers ­­— led by former President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter. Costa Cruises and AISM: Tours Now Also Accessible to Guests with Disabilities for the First Time

Costa Cruises, AISM (Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association) and the Costa Crociere Foundation present the results of a joint project aimed at making vacations increasingly accessible to people with impaired mobility. For the first time in the world in the cruise sector, guests with disabilities will be able to participate in group shore excursions, at no extra cost, with accessibility verified by AISM, in accordance with the most advanced international good practices.

New York City, Con Edison, and National Grid Launch Study Building Toward Carbon Emission Reduction Goal of 80% by 2050

NEW YORK – The Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and electric and gas utilities Con Edison and National Grid have announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) that will begin the process of evaluating different pathways that New York City can pursue to effectively reach its goal of achieving 80 percent reduction in carbon emissions over 2005 levels by 2050, while maintaining safe, affordable, and reliable delivery of energy.

Volunteering in Guatemala With Pencils of Promise

In 2017, American Apparel launched a capsule collection of hoodies, t-shirts and bags in collaboration with Pencils of Promise (POP) to provide support for teachers and fund the construction of new schools in Guatemala, Ghana and Laos, contributing U.S. $220,000. POP is a US-based not-for-profit organization that works to increase access to education and raise global awareness of child illiteracy as there are 250 million children worldwide who lack basic reading, writing and math skills.

The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation in Chile Expands Technical School in Calama

The Colegio Don Bosco De Calama recently inaugurated new specialties workshop facilities with the support of Minera El Abra, a Freeport-McMoRan company. The new building provides additional workshop and laboratory space and is disability accessible.

The National Diversity Council Announces the Top 15 Diverse Companies in Ohio

The National Diversity Council announces 2018’s Top 15 Diverse Companies in Ohio. The Top 15 is derivative from the Diversity in Corporate Governance Report. The report is comprised of research performed by the National Diversity Council and is based on researched of racial, ethnic and gender diversity of corporate executive leadership and board membership of the 55 Fortune 1000 companies located in Ohio as compared with data for the states.

Recently, attendees from around the world gathered in San Francisco for the Global Climate Action Summit. The event celebrated achievements in climate action and served as a launchpad for deeper and accelerated commitments to prevent dangerous climate change. Attendees represented a diverse cross-section of state and local leaders, businesses, investors, scientists, students and nonprofits. While the aim of the summit was specific to driving positive impact, one thing was clear: diverse perspectives, technologies and tools were not only significant drivers of progress made to date, but also the most-essential components of plans for accelerated change and global impact in the future.

Our Commitment to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Earlier this year, we announced our target to decrease greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2030. We made this bold public commitment as part of our holistic approach to sustainability, to help people understand what Tyson Foods stands for with respect to environmental responsibility and because we recognize reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an important part of producing sustainable food and protecting our planet for future generations.

We’re very excited to announce that our greenhouse gas emissions target has been accepted by the Science Based Targets initiative, making us the first U.S. protein company in the food and beverage sector to receive such an approval.

National Disability Institute, Wells Fargo Release New Financial Education Guides for People With Disabilities

Recognizing that financial education is an important first step to financial stability and independence, National Disability Institute (NDI) and Wells Fargo released 15 quick financial education reference guides and five supplemental guides for people with disabilities. The new guides are designed to provide financial educators, American Job Centers, Vocational Rehabilitation, and community-based organizations access to resources and tools specifically for persons with disabilities. The disability-specific materials complement existing Hands on Banking® instructor guides for young adults, adults and entrepreneurs.

Regional transportation as we know it today will be transformed over the next several years as California moves forward to meet its ambitious clean energy goals and improve air quality by 2030.

“The governor has set a goal of 5 million electric vehicles on the road in California by 2030. However, we at Edison believe there should be 7 million electric vehicles on the road to meet the climate goals set for the state,” said Chris Thompson, Southern California Edison vice president for Local Public Affairs.

UN Global Compact Recognizes Most Engaged Companies at Leaders Summit 2018

Today, the United Nations Global Compact is pleased to announce the businesses that have been recognized as Global Compact LEAD companies for demonstrating ongoing commitment to the UN Global Compact and its Ten Principles for responsible business.

Announced at UN Headquarters in New York during the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2018, these companies were identified as being among the most engaged participants of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. The 34 Global Compact LEAD companies recognized today represent every region of the world and 19 sectors.

The Allstate Foundation announced today the expansion of The Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Center, an online and in-person nonprofit leadership development program offering free curriculum for all nonprofit professionals. The curriculum, developed by the Kellogg School Center for Nonprofit Management at Northwestern University, covers topics including leadership, management and stakeholder engagement.
