Antea Group was contracted by one of the world’s largest chemical manufacturing organizations to provide equipment-specific lockout / tagout procedures at their largest Research and Develop facility in North America. The overall objective of the project was to evaluate the worker risks during maintenance and repair operations associated with laboratory equipment at the facility and to mitigate those risks through the development and implementation of equipment-specific lockout / tagout procedures. Development of these procedures also helped the facility to assure regulatory compliance with OSHA’s standard on Control of Hazardous Energy (29 CFR 1910.147).
When problem areas touch each other and are entangled in a manner that requires consideration of all the interdependencies in order to find real solutions, the word of the day is “nexus.” Nexus simply means a coming together, but in the world of sustainability, it’s used to highlight the need for systems thinking, the need to consider all the angles lest your solution in one dimension exacerbate a problem in another.
