Wendy's Celebrates Supplier Excellence with Annual Golden Link Awards
Wendy’s recently hosted its annual meeting in Las Vegas, at which the most outstanding suppliers and distributors were presented with Golden Link Awards by Quality Supply Chain Co-op (QSCC). The Golden Link award recognizes the critical role they play as a link in Wendy’s supply chain. Wendy’s also presented their Quality Assurance award to honor a supplier who consistently maintains the highest standards of food quality and product safety. Of hundreds of suppliers and distributors, these twelve earned the QSCC Golden Link awards for their performance over the past two years.
VIDEO | How an Elementary School Teacher in Montana Helped Her Students Launch a Global Business
Nestled along the Clark Fork River in the northeastern reaches of Montana, students at Garden City Montessori school are spread out across the floor holding impromptu photo shoots, earnestly making calculations and debating the price of a new Casio watch. These students aren’t just here to learn. They are running a vibrant marketplace—and they mean business.

Shirley Hines has lived in Houston for most of her life. She has been through hurricanes and floods before. But Harvey was different.

FSC® Strategic Plan, New Markets and More: SCS Shares Highlights From the 2017 FSC General Assembly
Our forestry team recently returned from the 2017 Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) General Assembly (GA), which took place this year from October 8-13 in Vancouver, Canada. It was an exciting gathering, attended by more than 700 FSC international members, including forestry companies, NGOs, a wide diversity of wood-based product manufacturers, and more. Moreover, it was the FSC’s first North American-held General Assembly since 1993, a treat for those of us headquartered on this side of the pond.
Healthier Soil, Better Climate?
Organic food is growing in popularity. We can almost predict what’s next: “Regenerative agriculture.”

It’s a holistic approach to farming that could, among other things, halt and even reverse some of the food system’s contribution to climate change.
Domtar Sustainability: Managing Our Energy and Emissions
Domtar’s three-part approach to improving the sustainability of our energy consumption is yielding results.
We have converted most of our carbon-intensive coal power boilers to cleaner burning and less carbon-intensive natural gas.
Domtar's Evolution Means Increased Viability for Forestry
It's an exciting time to be at Domtar and a member of the forestry community, Domtar Pulp & Paper President Mike Garcia said recently while speaking to a group of landowners and foresters at the South Carolina Forestry Association's annual meeting.
Domtar Sustainability: A 10,000 Tail Fish Tale
Domtar uses water for more than making paper. In our mill in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, we also hatch and rear fish—thousands of brook, brown and rainbow trout every year.
Social Media Isn’t All Broken
This week on the news, I saw Congress grill social media executives. I heard about the spread of fake news and the negative things that social media has wrought. There was lots of focus on young people and how they use these forums – I even heard one report when an expert being interviewed mentioned that he was an undergraduate.

I won’t disagree that there are negatives about social media, but I do want to point out a different perspective that comes from my work.

My industry and the population we serve are often considered out of the loop on technology. But, the truth is social media has become a huge benefit in the lives of many people old enough to be that undergraduate’s grandparents.
Creating Opportunity for All
Today, we take for granted how easy and seamless it has become to conduct business with one another and trade online. We order food on a mobile app from almost any restaurant and it arrives at our door within an hour; we get in a stranger’s car for a ride across town; we spend our family vacations in some other stranger’s home. It’s all so normal now -- no big deal. But in 1995, when Mark Fraser of Salt Spring Island, Canada, sent $14.83 to a person he’d never met (Pierre) —never even spoken with —to buy a laser pointer he saw on a website, it was a remarkable act and started an even more remarkable movement.
