Award-winning news for Domtar, a leading global provider of pulp, paper and personal care products. The company is pleased to announce its 2017 Sustainability Report, “Working Smart for the Long Term,” has been named the winner in two categories of the Corporate Register Reporting Awards 2018 program (CRAA’18). More than 121 entries submitted by 61 organizations across 6 continents were judged and Domtar won in the categories of Creativity in Communication and Openness & Honesty.

Domtar’s 2017 Sustainability Report Named Finalist for Two Corporate Responsibility Awards
Domtar, a leading provider of pulp, paper and personal care products, is pleased to announce that the company’s 2017 Sustainability Report, “Working Smart for the Long Term,” has been short-listed as a finalist for the Corporate Register Reporting Awards 2018 (CRRA’18). This honor indicates the piece stands as an example of one of the most significant Corporate Responsibility reports published over the past year. Domtar’s creative approach to sustainability reporting was named a finalist in not one, but two categories: Creativity in Communication and Openness & Honesty.

Our manufacturing processes generate byproducts that were historically viewed as “waste” and sent to landfills. We are increasingly monetizing the value in these byproducts and envision a future with virtually zero waste going to landfills. The benefits are both environmental and economic.

Domtar Sustainability: Simple Idea. Big Savings
How do you heat more with less? Reuse the heat you have.

That is what our Rothschild, Wisconsin, mill did by installing a heat exchanger to warm incoming process water with outgoing process water. The idea is simple. Instead of being lost to the wastewater treatment plant, some of the heat from the outgoing water is captured and sent back into the mill.

A significant portion of our colleagues are, or soon will be, eligible for retirement, an issue many manufacturers face as baby boomers get older. It is sometimes called the “silver tsunami.” We are equipping the next generation of our workforce with the skills and experience needed to succeed.
