Close the Gap’s DigiTruck on a Tour Through Kenya

One of Close the Gap’s DigiTrucks (the one sponsored by Arrow Electronics) is currently traveling through Kenya. Two of Close the Gap’s local partner organisations, who are also the operators of this DigiTruck, Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK) and the WEEE Centre, are touring through different Kenyan (sub)counties the next few weeks.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation announced the creation of its Hometown Community Garden and Greenspace Grant Fund with The Union County Foundation. The fund was opened to mark the 150th anniversary of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company and to further support the development of thriving gardens and greenspaces in its backyard of Marysville, Ohio.

Connecting More Than 6 Million Low-Income Americans

Comcast today announced it has now connected more than six million low-income Americans to the Internet through its Internet Essentials program, which is the largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program for low-income families in the U.S. The company connected more than two million people in the last year alone, which is the largest annual increase in the program’s history. The company also announced it will significantly expand eligibility – for the eleventh time in seven years – to low-income veterans, nearly one million of whom live within the Comcast footprint. According to the United States Census Bureau’s 2016 American Community Survey, less than 70 percent of low-income veterans have Internet access, and about 60 percent own a computer.

Hurricane Recovery Assistance Still Available for Military Families

As America prepares for the 2018 hurricane season, Operation Homefront, thanks to generous support from the Walmart Foundation and others, are ensuring that military families in Florida and other locations impacted by the devastating series of natural disasters in 2017 are not forgotten. The need to assist these families continues, as temporary federal programs and moratoriums that were implemented to support the victims of these disasters are now expiring.

Hanes and Alternative Launch New National Park Foundation Collections

HanesBrands and the NPF, the official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, launched a five-year partnership in April 2018 to encourage awareness, exploration and conservation of America’s parks. The partnership will generate $4 million for NPF and feature designs from the company’s Hanes, Alternative and Champion brands.

Sodexo, a food services and facilities management company committed to improving Quality of Life, and NAACP’s ACT-SO initiative (Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics), the civil rights organization’s year-long youth program, held its annual competition with culinary and hospitality high school students last month in San Antonio, Texas. Winners received monetary scholarships to attend the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).
