The 32-year-old native of Germany has devoted his studies to solar cells, just completing a Ph.D. in chemistry and materials physics at the University of California, Irvine. America’s Heartland Season 11 Debuts

Starting September 9, America’s Heartland will begin sharing another season of interesting and informative stories about agriculture in America. Now in its 11th season, the award-winning program covers topics designed to address consumers’ questions and concerns about food safety, animal welfare and environmental sustainability. Some stories feature farmers and ranchers, some talk about agribusinesses and other cover the science behind agriculture and efforts to improve processes and yields.

BJ’s Charitable Foundation Helps Local Hunger-Relief Agencies Feed More Families

In honor of Hunger Action MonthTM, BJ’s Charitable Foundation announces today that it will provide grants to Feeding America® and 21 member food banks totaling $600,000. Grants will support capacity building, food safety training and transportation costs for its local agencies, shelters, food pantries and other feeding programs. After helping to expand capacity in 2014 for more than 400 feeding pantries and programs that resulted in over 10 million more pounds of food to be donated, BJ’s Charitable Foundation will invest additional funding this year to further prevent a bottleneck in the supply chain for food distribution to Americans facing hunger.

Food matters. The nutritional value and appeal of their food makes a difference to the scientists on the International Space Station. That point was made during a panel discussion “Is Food the Cure?” by Vickie Kloeris, Manager, International Space Station Food System, NASA Johnson Space Center. She was joined by Dr. Frédéric Saldmann, Cardiologist, Nutritionist and Writer, and Lawrence A. Soler, President and CEO, Partnership for a Healthier America. They were among the speakers that I was privileged to hear at Sodexo’s inaugural Quality of Life Conference.

This project includes implementing a $5 million grant from the California Energy Commission, the state’s primary energy and planning agency.

The Environmental Media Association has announced the nominees for its 25th annual Environmental Media Awards, and each of the three series nominated in the Television Comedy category was produced by a 21st Century Fox business. 'The Simpsons' and 'Bob's Burgers,' two of FOX's animated series were nominated, as well as the sitcom 'Cristela,' which is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television. The Environmental Media Awards honor film and television productions that increase public awareness of environmental issues and inspire environmental responsibility.
