Kzoo Awarded $100k Grant for Bronson Park Renovations

The city of Kalamazoo is getting a $100,000 grant from the Consumer Energy Foundation for renovations to Bronson Park. The Kalamazoo Department of Parks and Recreations made the announcement Tuesday in a news release. The donation brings the Bronson Park 21st Century campaign past the halfway mark of its $21 million goal and will go towards the installment of an information kiosk for visitors, the release said.

Accelerating economic development remains one of the top priorities for mayors around the country, with an increasing focus on intentionally targeting socioeconomic issues, such as income inequality. Seventy-five percent of mayors highlighted economic development in their 2016 State of the City address, according to the National League of Cities, with 22 percent looking specifically at providing greater support to small businesses and 17 percent mentioning businesses owned by women and people of color.

Since 2004, more than 6,200 children have been adopted through the Foundation’s signature Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® program — a program that funds full-time adoption recruiters in every U.S. state, the District of Columbia and six Canadian provinces.

Last year 3.2 million people visited Grand Teton National Park. They left behind over 1,800 tons of trash. “Most of the people who come and visit the park aren’t necessarily thinking about what happens to their waste after they throw it in the trash bin,” park spokesman Andrew White said.
