Aligning Community Support With Nonprofit Needs When Disaster Strikes
When natural disasters and inclement weather shut down entire cities and states, an outpouring of support in the form of financial donations and disaster relief supply drives from people far and wide never fails to follow.
Fleet Efficiency
With the 7th largest fleet in the nation, we know it’s important for us to continuously leverage technology to reduce emissions and optimize collections while also increasing efficiency and improving safety. These solutions are making a difference in our daily operations and helping to decrease our carbon footprint.
Developing Skills at Stope School
As part of our commitment to workplace diversity, Red Lake Gold Mines implemented the Stope School Program in 2007.

The Stope School Program is a Common Core training program that trains both local and First Nations people who are interested in working in an underground mining environment. The program runs for three months and consists of Underground Hard Rock modules, as well as other specialty modules. The Stope School Program prepares the trainees to enter the workforce knowing the basics of mining with safety as a priority. Training consists of theory and practical activities consistent with the guidelines outlined by the Common Core Modules, a series of programs administered by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
Sharpening Skills at the Mine Rescue Summit
At Goldcorp, we’re proud to have highly trained Mine Rescue and Surface Emergency Response Teams at our mining operations, ready for any emergency that might arise. Thankfully, these rarely occur; but at the same time, how can response teams stay at the top of their game if they’re hardly ever activated?

Although each mine’s emergency responders receive regularly scheduled training to stay fresh, many felt they would benefit from getting together in a focused, organized event that promotes sharing knowledge and improving skills. To that end, Goldcorp’s Mine Rescue Summit was developed to keep emergency responder skills up-to-date with specialized realistic training exercises that put each participant to the test.

We spoke with our own Peter Calnan, VP of Safety and Health, to talk about our safety and health successes, and how innovation is helping make our mines the safest they can be.

How Formerly Incarcerated People Are Tackling the World’s Fastest-Growing Waste Problem
Securing a job as a formerly incarcerated person can be challenging. Job applications frequently ask prospective employees to disclose their criminal history, and when former prisoners do, their applications are often denied. Formerly incarcerated people face several systemic barriers when it comes to reintegrating into society and finding a job that can make it difficult for them to support themselves and transition back into civilian life.
