Shoot for the Stars and You’ll Get to the Moon

Each of us has the power to make a difference through our actions as employees, consumers, parents, and members of our communities. How do we make a difference? How do we contribute and create sustainable value for all our stakeholders? What I’ve learned on this journey is that each of us has choices to make in order to balance our personal and professional lives; oftentimes, the two intersect.

The event was organized by the BALANCE Employee Business Resource Group. The Ongoing Fight for LGBTQ Civil Rights

The riots at New York City’s Stonewall Inn in June 1969 are generally cited as a catalyst for the LGBTQ rights movement, but efforts had been growing steadily during the previous two decades. This was a time in U.S. history when homosexuality was still listed as a mental disorder, and gay behavior was illegal in 49 states. People could be arrested for having a physical relationship with a member of the same sex. The act of wearing clothes resembling the opposite gender was outlawed. In major cities, raids of gay bars were common.
