The Taproot Foundation recognizes that most organizations tackling social problems don’t have access to the marketing, design, technology, strategy, or planning resources they need to succeed. Nonprofits are understaffed, under-resourced, and need support. In the 2017 State of Pro Bono Service Survey, Taproot focused in on the challenges nonprofits experience each day, and in this report, identified how pro bono can be a high-impact resource in overcoming these common barriers.

KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment (CDLI) has provided $5.7 million to The Woda Group, Inc. (Woda) for the new construction of Audubon Crossing, located in Dayton, OH. The 50-unit, three-story residential apartment community will be income- and age-restricted to seniors 55 and older with 35-60% AMI.

Veteran Leads Platoon of Volunteers in Hurricane Irma Prep and Recovery Work

After leaving the U.S. Army in 2015, Derek struggled to find purpose outside of the military – but he found his place when he heard about The Mission Continues, a nonprofit that empowers veterans by engaging them in service to the community. Through the organization’s fellowship program, Derek volunteered for six months at Up2Us Sports, where Derek recruited and mentored veteran coaches to give underprivileged youth the opportunity to develop positive relationships with adults. At the conclusion of his fellowship, he was hired full-time by Up2Us.

Erika Rebstock and 37 other students are attending college this year with help from the Wells Fargo Scholarship Program for People with Disabilities. In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October, Wells Fargo has announced it is accepting online applications for its scholarship program for the 2018-19 academic year through Nov. 28, 2017, or until 700 applications have been submitted.

A group of company leaders, representatives from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, and materials technology innovators from the US Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Materials Marketplace, recently gathered on the Living Lands & Waters barge to help solve the problem.
