On Tuesday, the Variety Inclusion Summit, sponsored by 20th Century Fox, hosted elite gathering of leaders and innovators in support of diversity - the inclusion of different genders, races, abilities, sexual identities, ethnicities, ages, and more - in film, TV, and digital media. The list of 22 prominent speakers included musician and producer Pharrell Williams, FX's American Horror Story series regular Jamie Brewer, 20th Century Fox's New Girl executive producer Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, and Fox Animation and Bly Sky Studio President Vanessa Morrison.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) continues to receive comment letters from a variety of organizations and individuals about whether to refine conflict minerals reporting requirements under Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act.

They take graduation rates, academic reputation, alumni giving rate, and more into consideration. In my opinion, a commitment to public service can positively influence all these factors. And UC Berkeley is no stranger to public service.

Recognizing the benefits of a diverse workforce, Norfolk Southern has established employee Diversity and Inclusion Councils in each of its 10 operating divisions. These grassroots councils promote a respectful workplace, contribute to business goals, and maximize employee potential. By the end of 2015, more than 200 employees were serving on the councils.

As a part of its series of volunteer events across its network, CSX hosted a day of service at Mt. Herman Exceptional Student Center, part of Duval County Public Schools, in Jacksonville, Fla. on Saturday, November 5. CSX employees gathered with school leaders and teachers, along with the company’s national service partners City Year and Action for Healthy Kids, to complete projects to make the school cleaner and greener, and encourage physical activity among students.

There is little doubt that sustainability provides business value, particularly when those initiatives are part of the core business strategy. It certainly worked for Unilever.
