Subaru has supported Meals on Wheels for the last nine years through Share the Love, contributing more than $12 million to Meals on Wheels America and providing more than 1.7 million nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to seniors in communities nationwide. Subaru announced the donation to its 630-strong retailer body at the company’s National Business Conference in Denver, CO. This was particularly appropriate as Subaru retailers participate in the company’s annual Share the Love event and donate to causes in their local community. The company’s ‘50 Cars for 50 Years’ vehicle donation will enable Meals on Wheels programs to deliver more nutritious meals and moments of companionship, expanding its reach to seniors in need.

On National Safe Digging Day, Consumers Energy Reminds Public to Notify MISS DIG 8-1-1 Before Digging

Today is National Safe Digging 8-1-1 Day, and Consumers Energy is encouraging Michigan homeowners and business owners to call MISS DIG 8-1-1 before starting digging projects. “The safety of our customers, the public and local communities is our No. 1 priority. Everyone is safer when anyone digging takes the time to call 8-1-1 to be sure they’re not digging near underground pipes,” said Mary Palkovich, Consumers Energy’s vice president of gas engineering and supply. “We are pleased to see progress in building public awareness of MISS DIG 8-1-1, and we want to help people avoid underground pipelines.”

Towards a Circular Economy to #MoveTheDate

Across the globe, about 50 percent of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are tied to materials. The United Nations, for example, estimates that in 41.8 million tonnes (Mt) of electronic waste there is 16 Mt of iron, 1.9 Mt of copper and 300 tonnes of gold, plus other precious metals such as palladium, with a combined value of $52 billion. Therefore, the transition to a circular economy not only contributes to climate action, but can have significant economic benefits as well.
