For the Eleventh Year in a Row, Subaru “Shares the Love” in a Big Way with the ASPCA

For the eleventh consecutive year, the ASPCA was one of four national charities to participate in the Subaru Share the Love® Event, which began on November 15, 2018, and ended on January 2, 2019.

Subaru set no limit on the total donation to all charities for the third year in a row, resulting in a total donation of nearly $27.5 million from Subaru and its retailers!

University of Alberta Team Wins Youth Empowerment National Champion Title

Students at the University of Alberta are increasing high-school and post-secondary students’ financial literacy and employability skills through their Project NextStep. Enactus University of Alberta has been named the 2019 Scotiabank Youth Empowerment Challenge National Champion by this country’s largest student leadership development organization, Enactus Canada, and program supporter Scotiabank. The national competition took place at the 2019 Enactus Canada National Exposition in Vancouver.

Lamar University has reached a $20 million energy savings milestone as a result of its energy efficiency project with Schneider Electric. Lamar University achieved this milestone after a 15-year partnership with Schneider Electric. To date, the project has reduced campus-wide utility consumption by 43 percent, saving on average $1.63 million in annual utility costs. Additionally, this project has generated $21,276,086 million in energy savings.

Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and Green Mountain Energy Sun Club Unite to Bring Sustainability to Landmark Campus

Leaders and staff from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club joined the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House to commemorate Sun Club-funded sustainability projects at the non-profit, including the unveiling of a 5-foot-solar-powered sculpture in a new orchard today. The sculpture, orchard, and an accompanying 125 kilowatt solar array, are additions to the Philadelphia campus made possible through a grant worth more than $315,000 from the Sun Club.

New Holland Construction Sends Zero Waste to Landfill at Its Contagem Plant in Brazil

The New Holland Construction plant in Contagem, in Minas Gerais state, Brazil, reached its ambitious target of Zero Landfill by treating 100% of its waste. The project, started in 2016, went through a feasibility study of various alternatives to ensure the environmentally correct choice was made: either through recycling or composting, and was then implemented in phases. The initiative was based on CNH Industrial’s World Class Manufacturing (WCM) philosophy, which seeks zero losses together with the methodology of the 5R Pyramid - refusing of waste (reverse logistics), reduction, reuse, recycling and recovery.

The use of virtual reality technology offers some key opportunities to improve social risk management on projects. First, enabling indigenous communities to visualize the future state of a project can enhance the “informed consultation process” between project sponsors and communities. Second, it helps shift indigenous communities from observers to more active participants – technically and spiritually – in how the project will impact their long-term, sustainable development. Finally, it can be a mechanism to help new workers joining the project to more effectively understand how the construction can affect the socio-political, cultural and environmental context of the impacted indigenous communities.

AEP Releases 2019 Corporate Accountability Report

American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has issued its 2019 Corporate Accountability Report, an annual assessment of its performance as a public company and a community partner. This is the 13th year AEP has released the report, which details its developments in energy and technology, social responsibility, community investments and environmental stewardship.

The report’s theme, “Innovating for a Boundless Energy Future,” mirrors AEP’s efforts to embrace technology and digitization to deliver clean, reliable energy to its customers and value to its shareholders, while also being a positive force in the communities it serves.
