But in 2016, Consumers Energy reduced water intensity — gallons used per megawatt-hour of electricity produced — by 17 percent at its electric generating plants. The energy provider is aiming for a 20 percent reduction by 2018. Reaching that goal would save more than 100 million gallons of water per year.
Communities in Schools of Nevada (CIS) recently honored Sands Cares, Las Vegas Sands’ corporate giving program, as the Corporate Partners of the Year. Cargill strengthened the water supply network for 1,200 farming households in Bannikodu village, Karnataka, India, by installing a 1,000-meter water supply pipeline. Today the National Sheriffs1 Association (NSA) and pharmaceutical manufacturer Purdue Pharma L.P. announced the second round of its partnership to fund naloxone overdose kits and training for front-line officers. Naloxone is a “rescue drug” that can reverse an overdose from some opioids, including heroin. This new round permits the NSA to offer more of these naloxone kits and training free of charge to law enforcement agencies across the country, building on the pilot program launched in 2015. The second phase brings the total funding of the program to $850,000 since its inception.
