Near-record Growth Propels Wind Power Into First Place as America’s Largest Renewable Resource

American wind power just achieved its second strongest quarter ever for newly installed energy generating capacity according to a new report released today by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). Wind surpassed hydropower dams to become the largest source of renewable electric capacity in the U.S., and the fourth largest overall.

Skills-based Volunteerism in Israel Inspires Teens Through Unistream Partnership

Unistream was launched in 2001, the same year Avnet Israel was established. More than 700 teens across Israel are participating in a program called “Educating Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.” The aim of the program is to inspire and empower these young adults and to show them they too have a path toward business and social leadership. There are 12 Unistream centers spread throughout the country.

Goodwill: The Unsung Hero of Healthcare Plastics Recycling

Most people know Goodwill as a thrift store, or donation center for unwanted items, and not as being in the recycling business. However, Goodwill is helping to reduce landfilling and associated environmental impacts through various recycling efforts. One such effort involves Kaiser Permanente and Goodwill Southern California. Their partnership began in 2009 when Kaiser Permanente was looking for a vendor to take their 20 tons/year of blue wrap, a nonwoven material made from polypropylene used for wrapping surgical instruments for sterilization.
