The JetBlue Foundation and Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) to Introduce Nearly 200 Students to Careers in Aviation
JetBlue today announced a collaborative initiative between the JetBlue Foundation and the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) to introduce aviation careers to students traditionally under-represented in the field. This summer both organizations are working together to increase awareness of aviation-related careers through hands-on learning for minority students and girls, ages 14-18. Students will learn directly from pilots and other aviation professionals at JetBlue’s airports, hangars and flight training centers in Boston; Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Long Beach/Los Angeles; New York; Orlando, Fla.; San Juan, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Businesses and Institutions Call for a Regional Approach to Curb Transportation Emissions
Influential investors, companies, hospital systems, colleges, and universities called on Northeast and Mid-Atlantic governors to take steps to modernize the region’s transportation system and keep the local economy thriving.

“As businesses and investors with operations throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, we urge you to prioritize policies and investments to create a clean, equitable and efficient transportation system,” more than 70 signatories wrote in letters delivered this week to governors throughout the region. “Our system for moving people and goods throughout the region has a clear impact on business productivity and costs, and our region stands to benefit significantly from making investments today to modernize that system.”

SCS Global Services Now Approved Verifier Under Airport Carbon Accreditation Program
SCS Global Services (SCS), a leading international third-party certifier of environmental claims, is now authorized under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program to verify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories for participating Airports. KeyBank Provides $10.4 Million in Financing for Affordable Housing Expansion in Miami
KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment (CDLI) provided a $10.4 million bridge loan to Affordable Housing Development Services, LLC (AHDS) for the acquisition of Ocean King Apartments, an 82-unit project located in North Miami, FL. Ocean King Apartments is currently operating at market rate and will be transitioned to an affordable community that will serve individuals earning up to 60% area median income (AMI).

“KeyBank is proud to partner with AHDS in their mission to expand affordable housing in high-cost markets, such as Miami,” said Tiffany Durr, Relationship Manager of KeyBank Real Estate Capital. “The conversion of Ocean King to an affordable community demonstrates a long-term commitment to improving access to housing for low- and moderate-income households.”

ComCapp, Green Mountain Energy Announce Sustainability Partnership to Power Communities with Rooftop Solar and 100% Renewable Electricity
Private real estate management and investment firm Commerce Capital Partners (ComCapp) has teamed up with Green Mountain Energy to power 10 Texas apartment communities with 100% renewable electricity, add rooftop solar to one of its Corpus Christi communities, and offer renewable energy at a special rate to the residents of all ComCapp communities in deregulated markets. By switching the common areas of these multi-family properties to wind energy, the real estate firm will avoid 4.7 million pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions every year. That’s like driving 5.8 million fewer miles or taking 500 cars off the road for a year.
