Black & Veatch, Kansas to Test Beyond-Line-of-Sight Drone Under FAA Pilot Program
As unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) – commonly known as drones – become more vital for commercial use, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is weighing whether to free up more national airspace for them by relaxing restraints on their operation. Such airspace rules changes could allow beyond-line-of-sight use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), and Black & Veatch is part of the team helping test the safety of that.

Environmental Paper Network Launches Extensive Update to Its Paper Calculator
An improved web-based Paper Calculator, launched today by the Environmental Paper Network-North America, provides users with new information and features to help them measure the impacts of their paper and reduce that impact through better choices. Paper Calculator version 4 is the most comprehensive update of this tool to be released. It delivers more expansive environmental impact categories including additional pollutants and new biodiversity and ecosystem impacts, for a total of 24 indicators in all. It provides more accurate climate change reporting and has been updated with the latest paper industry and life cycle assessment data from trusted sources. PRI and Ceres Expand Sustainable Forest Initiative to Include Dialogue with Companies in the Soy Value Chain
The PRI and sustainability nonprofit organization Ceres today announced that their collaborative effort to address tropical deforestation, the Investor Initiative for Sustainable Forests, has expanded to include engagement with companies exposed to deforestation risks linked to soy production in South America.

The Initiative will support and coordinate investor’s engagement with companies to eliminate deforestation from their soybean supply chains within South America.

SC Johnson Improves Access to Health Care Through Partnership with Rwanda Ministry of Health
For millions of people in east central Africa, the risk of malaria infection is an everyday concern. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), up to 90 percent of Rwandans are at risk for malaria. To help address this risk and other public health issues, SC Johnson today announced a partnership with the Rwanda Ministry of Health and the Society for Family Health to co-develop a national strategy to increase access to health care through the construction of 10 new health posts across the country.

JetBlue today announced a collaborative initiative between the JetBlue Foundation and the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) to introduce aviation careers to students traditionally under-represented in the field. This summer both organizations are working together to increase awareness of aviation-related careers through hands-on learning for minority students and girls, ages 14-18. Students will learn directly from pilots and other aviation professionals at JetBlue’s airports, hangars and flight training centers in Boston; Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Long Beach/Los Angeles; New York; Orlando, Fla.; San Juan, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
