Representative of UN agencies, UN Regional Commissions, academia, civil society, and the private sector share multifaceted perspectives and recommendations for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a blog series managed by the UN Division for Sustainable Development (DSD).

In May 2015, CSX broke ground on a major project: reconstructing Washington, D.C.’s 110-year-old Virginia Avenue Tunnel. This project represents a major infrastructure improvement to fix a historic freight bottleneck in the congested beltway transportation system.

This year’s report features narratives describing employees who champion the cause of responsibility throughout the business, from the founder of a non-drinker’s employee resource group to an employee who organized a significant refugee aid effort in Europe.

In addition to the written narratives, Brown-Forman has produced a series of videos to accompany the report which help bring to life the company’s responsibility approach and actions, including its proactive alcohol responsibility efforts in its sales and marketing, as well as the long history of environmental sustainability at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

A long-time ideal of sustainability has been the concept of industrial ecology—the notion that industrial processes would benefit from mimicking the closed-loop efficiency of a natural ecosystem. Unlike conventional industrial processes, an ecosystem is not a process with a beginning and an end. An ecosystem is a continuous cycle through which materials flow.

NRG closely monitors its environmental impacts. We emit CO2 when generating electricity at most of our facilities. The graphs presented below illustrate our U.S. scope 1 emissions of CO2e for 2014, 2015 and 2016. We anticipate reductions in our future emissions pro le as we modernize our fleet through repowering, improve generation efficiencies and explore methods to capture CO2.
