Community Involvement

Small businesses are a powerful economic engine and a catalyst for good in their communities. During National Small Business Week (May 5-11), Duke Energy is spotlighting small businesses in its service area that are dedicated to giving back.

Families with newborn babies face many challenges. While we can’t help with all of them, we do know a bedtime story and a dry bottom can offer some relief during a stressful time. That’s why we recently packed diaper kits to assist low-income families.

Giving back to the community is important to Nick Wagner, who's been an Aflac independent sales agent for 18 years. Working at Aflac gives Nick the flexibility he needs to ensure that he's giving back how and when he wants. "Aflac gives me the opportunity to help people and make a lifestyle out of doing that." says Nick, "It's one thing to give money to a cause, and it's another thing to become a part of the cause. When there's a need in the community, I can take time away from what I'm doing with Aflac to go volunteer my time."

Throughout the last several weeks, thousands of volunteers have given their time and energy to participate in service projects in hundreds of communities nationwide and around the globe. Those efforts were part of the lead up to today’s companywide celebration of Comcast Cares Day, one of the largest corporate commitments to volunteerism and service in America. From coast to coast and in 22 countries abroad, our employees – including our new colleagues at Sky, friends, family members, nonprofit partners, and local leaders, worked together to improve their communities and bring one of our company’s greatest traditions to life.

On Saturday, May 4th, more than 100,000 Comcast, NBCUniversal – and for the first time Sky – employees will come together with their friends, family members, and nonprofit partners to “make change happen” as part of the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day.

Las Vegas Sands’ global corporate giving program, Sands Cares, donated $100,000 to HELP of Southern Nevada’s Shannon West Homeless Youth Center to provide 1,807 nights of shelter for at-risk youth, and the opportunity to name five rooms on the first floor of the center after Sands Cares.

Las Vegas Sands announced the 12 recipients of The Mr. Sheldon G. and Dr. Miriam Adelson Citizenship Award presented by Sands Cares. The award was established through Sands Cares, the company’s corporate giving program, to recognize team members across all regions who have demonstrated a dedication to giving back to their local communities and important causes.

Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) today announced a new grant to KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to ensuring that all kids get a childhood filled with the balanced and active play needed to thrive.

For the second year, Arrow Electronics employees at the company’s global headquarters celebrated Earth Day by teaming with Denver Parks and Recreation to clean Commons Park, near downtown Denver. Arrow volunteers mulched around trees, picked up litter and pruned overgrowth at the park. Collectively, the 75 participating employees contributed 250 hours of volunteer labor. They were part of a larger group of 375 employees from local companies that saved the city $25,000 in maintenance work.
