Making a Difference in Local Communities

With thirteen pulp and paper mills located throughout North America, actively contributing to the sustainable development of the communities in which we operate is in Domtar's fiber. We support a wide range of volunteer and charitable causes in these areas, with a special emphasis on sustainability, education and literacy.

Domtar Volunteers Make a Difference at Camp Blue Skies
We proudly partnered with Camp Blue Skies again this year to help make camp a reality for adults with disabilities. Many Domtar volunteers worked with the camp several times over the past few months to help set up activities for campers, including zip lines, ropes courses, Frisbee games and post-lunch singalongs in the cafeteria.

Domtar’s EarthChoice Ambassadors: Making the Domtar Difference
There are many factors that make up the Domtar difference. One of them is our EarthChoice Ambassador (ECA) program. ECA is an employee engagement program that began in 2010 to promote sustainable principles throughout the company.

Education

Partnership Promotes Classroom Reading Goal: 15 Pages A Day
The Paper and Packaging Board’s 15 Pages A Day campaign, which promotes reading on paper and illustrates the benefits of reading 15 pages each day, has recently made its way to classroom curricula around the country. Through a partnership with Young Minds Inspired (YMI), the Paper and Packaging Board is promoting a classroom reading goal of 15 pages every day.

Domtar and SCA Clean Up Parks in Two of Our Communities
Domtar volunteers in Missouri and Ontario invested hundreds of volunteer hours this spring to clean up community parks, with help from the Student Conservation Association (SCA). Participating in an SCA clean up is a great way for our colleagues to give back to the communities in which they live and work.

Domtar Celebrates Earth Week Year-Round
Domtar’s celebration of International Earth Day starts early, with a weeklong emphasis leading up to the worldwide day on April 22. We call it Earth Week, and we’ll spend it focusing on the natural gifts of our planet and giving back to our communities.

Domtar’s STEM Program Works to Build Future Leaders
Domtar's Plymouth Mill is hosting a series of events in honor of Earth Day. Area students will learn about the mill's science, math, engineering and math (STEM) program as employees visit schools in North Carolina and host a mill tour. Domtar is committed to developing tomorrow's leaders via STEM learning.
