On World Milk Day, Tetra Pak is showcasing its new UHT 2.0 heating portfolio and Tetra Pak® E3/Speed Hyper packaging equipment in support of this year’s theme of sustainability and Dairy’s commitment to innovation to reduce environmental footprint.
The Monarch Butterfly Habitat Exchange is an innovative market-based program dedicated to restoring and conserving high-quality monarch habitat on America's private working lands. It’s been dubbed an ‘Airbnb for butterflies’ because it’s the only program of its kind that can open the vast untapped potential of large-scale farms and ranches to make habitat available for monarchs at an unprecedented scale and pace.
Smithfield Foods, a global food company that is also the world’s largest hog producer and pork processor, is the first food company to participate in the program, contributing $300,000 to restore key prairie habitat for monarchs in Missouri.
Jason F. McLennan, partner and CEO of McLennan Design and founder of the International Living Future Institute, has been dubbed a “troublemaker”—but in the best way possible. His work uncovered the importance of sustainability before it was a buzzword and movement in the design industry. Starting his career as an architect, McLennan said he was focused on sustainability from the start of his path, focusing on its importance “before it was cool.”
When you take a bite of a hot slice of California Pizza Kitchen’s Mushroom and Green Onion pizza, you’re surely not thinking of mushroom farms, organic soil and sustainability.
Next time, perhaps you will.
What you might not know is that those mushrooms, and the farmers who grow them at the Pennsylvania-based Mother Earth Organic Mushrooms, are part of an awesome cycle of care that supports organic farms throughout the East Coast. Nestlé values the farm’s high-quality mushrooms, their rich flavor and the nutritional boost they provide — but we also seek out partners like Mother Earth to create shared value that goes beyond the products we create.
Smart cities also can be “Safe Cities” through the integration of smart city and public safety initiatives. An estimated 20 Safe City pilot programs are underway across the United States, in addition to programs on nearly every continent, in cities such as Dubai, Singapore and London.
The flooring giant’s Flooring North America segment, which includes area, accent and bath rug division Mohawk Home, posted a 3% sales increase in the period, driven by products made of the company’s own sustainable fibers and treatments.
It's rare that an idea or solution comes along that solves a variety of problems facing the world. Plant-based proteins is one of those. Whether it is human health, animal welfare, deforestation or climate change (or all of those) that concerns you, consuming more plant-based proteins can offer a simple (and tasty) way to make a positive contribution to solving them.
The food system is changing. It always has, but now it needs to change to reduce waste and optimise the use of plant proteins. Challenges like these have led the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, of which Nestlé is a member, to work on a new programme called FReSH - Food Reform for Sustainability and Health. FReSH will focus on the solutions that businesses can bring, and proteins will be at the centre.
Having donated over 100 million pounds of food, Pizza Hut is no stranger to reducing food waste. We’ve been in the game since 1992 when we launched our food donation program, Harvest.
In addition to running the Harvest program and participating in the Food Waste Reduction Alliance, we recently provided insight to ReFED, a multi-stakeholder nonprofit organization committed to reducing the $218 billion of food waste in the United States.
Lifesum, has become the first health app to allow its users (25 million internationally) to log and track ‘plogging’: an emerging environmentally conscious exercise craze from Scandinavia in which people integrate the collection of litter within their jogging workout. The move has been supported by Keep America Beautiful, which has served as the nation’s nonprofit steward of litter prevention for more than six decades.
Last year, Nestlé joined state and local governments, universities, and other companies to say that #WeAreStillIn to fight climate change and support the Paris Agreement. We pledged to continue to take real steps to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate our transition to a clean energy economy, reaffirming our commitment to caring for the planet for future generations.
Though global efforts on climate change are often shaped in places like Paris, Bonn, and Toronto, much of the important work in this space is happening in places like Benton County, Indiana, and Allentown, Pennsylvania — two places Nestlé knows quite well and will know even better in the years ahead.
