Xylem Volunteers Build Homes in Houston After Hurricane Harvey

Last year, Hurricane Harvey caused widespread devastation, forcing thousands of people out of damaged homes in Texas. In December, 25 Xylem employees volunteered with Houston Habitat for Humanity, rebuilding homes that had suffered from flooding and water damage in the wake of the hurricane.

Are You Uniquely Better?

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of joining Stephanie Meeks, the president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, in a “fire side” chat at the Participate Social Capital 2018 Conference in Alexandria, Virginia. After our talk, which focused on the long-standing partnership between American Express and the National Trust, we listened to the Cause Keynote, which was delivered by Gary Haugen, the CEO and Founder of International Justice Mission, an organization focused on the eradication of modern day slavery.

The Countdown is On - Comcast Cares Day

In less than a month, Comcast NBCUniversal volunteers will lend a hand in support of communities around the world where we live and work during the 17th annual Comcast Cares Day on Saturday, April 21. Giving back is a value we embrace throughout the entire year, but on Comcast Cares Day we leverage our relationship with hundreds of partners large and small, to make change happen and broaden our reach. Last year alone, more than 100,000 employees participated in events in more than 20 different countries.

This year, our volunteers will refresh school playgrounds, teach kids to code, prepare urban gardens for spring, and provide free legal support to families in need, among many other meaningful acts of service.

The Untapped Potential of Employee Volunteer Programs

We are at an exciting moment for employee engagement, with its untapped potential arguably larger than ever. Civic engagement is on the rise with volunteer platforms showing double to triple digit increases in engaged citizens. Millennials are maturing into leadership positions, enabling them to translate their appetite for purpose-driven work into everyday business practice. Over the next few years, we will see this manifest into an increasing private sector ambition on community issues, a growing sophistication of volunteer programs that reinforce leadership development, and a rise in CEO activism.

According to Benevity data from millions of Fortune 1000 employees, there was a notable spike in donation activity on March 8, 2018, with triple the total amount donated last year. Continue reading to find out which surprising set of causes were supported.
