In recent weeks, Comcast NBCUniversal and Sky employees gathered their friends, family members, nonprofit partners, and community leaders to participate in Comcast Cares Day 2019, one of the largest corporate days of service globally, and a celebration of our company’s year-round dedication to giving back.
Philanthropy
Last year’s wildfires were devastating for our area. As one of the most destructive wildfires in state history, they destroyed at least 8,400 homes and buildings and killed 22 people. In our district, about 800 students and 90 staff members lost their homes. The fires also destroyed one of our elementary schools and a high school farm.
When faced with unimaginable tragedy, this community came together, and we truly felt the support that came in from around the world. Comcast NBCUniversal, with over 500 employees in the local area, was intimately aware of the devastation and jumped in to help.

Corporate Responsibility
Comcast NBCUniversal today announced a record number of volunteers, projects and total hours served during the company’s 17th annual Comcast Cares Day, the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort and a powerful representation of the company’s year-round commitment to community service.
Volunteering & Community
Today my school looks drastically different than it did at the beginning of the school year, and that is thanks to the more than 400 members of the Comcast NBCUniversal family, including dozens from their nonprofit partner City Year, who joined us on our campus in April for Comcast Cares Day. The volunteers made change happen by painting bright and colorful murals throughout the school that focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and college preparedness. The physical transformation of the school has inspired our students, where 80 percent of them are eligible for free or reduced lunch, to believe that each and every one can and will be ready for a college career when they graduate.
Volunteering & Community
Our employees, their friends and families rolled up their sleeves and joined with our community partners to give back at more than 1,000 local projects across the U.S. and in 22 other countries. We also hit a milestone with more than 5 million total service hours donated since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001.
Awards & Rankings
At the NASCAR XFINITY Series™ and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series™ banquet on Monday, November 21, Comcast announced Wade Jackson as the winner of the second annual Comcast Community Champion of the Year Award. Comcast created the award in 2015 to honor NASCAR team members for their outstanding charitable endeavors, awarding $60,000 to the winner’s selected charity and $30,000 to the respective charities of the two remaining finalists.
