Last Thursday, more than 500 Astellas employees on two continents left their offices, rolled up their sleeves and helped their communities. They were supporting Changing Tomorrow Day— a global effort to contribute time and resources to building stronger communities. Across the United States, employees carried their passion for helping others by volunteering at service projects to improve wellness facilities for patients and their families, bring books to children of all ages and beautify cultural institutions.

Keep America Beautiful Affiliate Keep Blount Beautiful (KBB) received a $5,000 Community Partners Grant from Lowe’s and Keep America Beautiful to plant community edible gardens at two Blount County, Tennessee, schools.

To help families affected by recent disasters, Abbott and its foundation the Abbott Fund are providing $4.25 million in donated products and grants to support hurricane and earthquake relief. Most recent efforts focus on Hurricane Maria and earthquakes in Mexico.

Roughly 12 billion metric tons of plastic waste will be in landfills by 2050, according to the American Association for the Advancement of Science. As part of the Newmont water management strategy, regions are completing evaluations of their watershed to develop methodology that are in line with the ICMM guidelines on Catchment based water management for the mining and metals industry. These guidelines were developed to help with examining activities and issues within the entire watershed, taking into account hydrology and land use as well as the broader political, economic, social and ecological dynamics.
