Sands held its annual global virtual celebration to honor the work of members in its flagship capacity-building program for nonprofit organizations, the Sands Cares Accelerator.
With great challenges comes the opportunity for great action and impact. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—also known as the Global Goals—are so inclusive and comprehensive that some people worry the agenda is in danger of collapsing under its own weight.
One of the highlights of my job as a Community Partnerships Representative is seeing kids learn about the fascinating world of science that exists all around them.
When I hear kids say they want to become scientists, I know that our GSK Science in the Summer™ program is making a difference in their lives. Aditi, an 8-year-old who attended Science in the Summer in Montgomery County, made my day when she took the time to speak with me about her future.
Can businesses really thrive and succeed in doing right by people? It always seemed so but but now the proof is in the pudding. Fortune Magazine, one of the top financial publications, and FSG, a non-profit social consulting firm, have recognized GSK as #6 in the world as a company that’s doing well by doing good for other people.
One in four Texans lives at or below the poverty level; for children, it's nearly one in three. More than 6.3 million Texans - including 1.2 million children - lack health insurance. The uninsured are up to four times less likely to have a regular source of health care and are more likely to die from health-related problems. Related to communicable diseases, it is estimated that 1 in 4 children living in Texas go without all the necessary immunizations to lead healthy, happy lives due to a lack of affordability and access to medical care. Finally, lacking a medical home, most often uninsured people tend to look for health care in the emergency room, the most expensive setting they could possibly choose.
Today in Durham NC, over 150 GSK volunteers handed out backpacks filled with school supplies to children at the Durham Rescue Mission’s 16th annual Back to School Party. GSK donates the supplies (over 3000 backpacks!) and helps at the event as a contribution to the health of the community where we are proud to live and work. The goal is to get kids excited about going back to school and getting a good start on the new school year.
