Hurricane Katrina Showed Us We Can Do Better

Ten years ago, Hurricane Katrina hit the US Gulf Coast, leaving more than 1,300 people dead, forcing one million people from their homes and leaving 372,000 children without schools. Nobody was prepared for such devastation. In fact, it took seven months to reunite the last child with her family after thousands of children were reported missing. It was a true wake-up call for disaster preparedness and disaster relief across the US. At GSK, we realized there were things we could do to be better prepared.

Cox Employee Relief Fund Reaches $4 Million Giving Milestone

The Cox Employee Relief Fund (CERF), established hours after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina by members of the Cox family and the James M. Cox Foundation, announced today that it has surpassed $4 million in employee grants. More than 1,700 employees have received direct financial assistance from the fund since its inception a decade ago.

Novartis Continues Commitment to go the Last Mile in Effort to Eliminate Leprosy

Novartis has renewed its pledge with the World Health Organization (WHO) to work to end leprosy by extending its donation of multidrug therapy (MDT) medicines to treat leprosy through the year 2020. This five-year agreement includes treatments worth more than USD 40 million and up to USD 2.5 million to support the WHO in handling the donation and logistics. Overall it is expected that the program will reach an estimated 1.3 million patients during the next five years. This is part of the company’s commitment in 2012 to the London Declaration on Neglected Tropical Diseases.
