Keep America Beautiful Selects 2018–2019 National Youth Advisory Council

Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, has selected 11 high school students from across the country to serve on its seventh national Youth Advisory Council. Keep America Beautiful’s National Youth Advisory Council provides a unique opportunity for high school students to participate in a service-learning and leadership development program focusing on environmental stewardship and sustainability.

Pro Bono is a fancy term for donating your unique skill set — as an engineer, program manager, salesperson, and more — to partner with nonprofit organizations and help take their impact to the next level. It’s an opportunity to sharpen leadership skills while also making a meaningful impact in your community or around the world. Over the past year, employees from Cisco Global Virtual Sales and Customer Success answered the call to “donate your skills, not just your time.”

LG Celebrates “ENERGY STAR Day” with Energy Efficient Upgrades for Local Non-Profit

LG is committed to supporting local communities and helping others pursue a more environmentally sustainable future. In honor of “ENERGY STAR® Day” 2018, LG has partnered with Bergen Family Center in Englewood, N.J., to bring much-needed energy efficient kitchen and TV upgrades to support their high quality service to thousands of local children, seniors and families. We look forward to working with Bergen Family Center on their sustainability journey!

Duke Energy Foundation Awards Indiana Nonprofits $315,000 in Community Impact Grants

Twenty-one Indiana nonprofit organizations are receiving $315,000 in Duke Energy Foundation grants to make a difference in their communities. Their projects range from a holiday food drive for the needy in Howard County to Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra concerts for elementary students from around the state.

LG Celebrates ‘ENERGY STAR Day’ with Laundry Upgrades for Local Non-Profits

Commemorating “ENERGY STAR® Day” 2018, LG Electronics USA partnered with the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region to help local organizations save today, save tomorrow, and save for good with LG’s ENERGY STAR certified clothes washers and dryers.

LG’s support of ENERGY STAR Day, in cooperation with the local United Way and non-profits, “is consistent with our commitment to environmental sustainability and to the community,” said John I. Taylor, LG Electronics USA’s senior vice president, public affairs and corporate social responsibility. “This ENERGY STAR Day and every day, LG and ENERGY STAR help you save for good – for all the good things you want in your life and for a healthier planet for you and your family.”

Sheryl Telford, VP of EHS & Corporate Responsibility at the Chemours Company, Joins WEC Board

The World Environment Center (WEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Sheryl Telford to its board of directors.
Telford leads corporate responsibility and environmental health and safety at Chemours. Most recently she guided development of Chemours’ recently launched Corporate Responsibility Commitment and its associated goals. The Chemours Corporate Responsibility Commitment is an enabler of the company’s growth strategy with emphasis on an evolved portfolio of products, inspired people, and caring for a shared planet.

The Knitting Factor: Tying It All Together in Celebration of Pro Bono Week

Last year we debuted a concept called The Knitting Factor, which helps explain how skills-based volunteering knits together the expertise from the corporate and nonprofit sectors to create sustainable solutions that don’t come undone when partners part ways. We also introduced three key ingredients to the success of The Knitting Factor: Panoramic Perspectives, Skill Sharing and Sticky Relationships. In celebration of Pro Bono Week, we wanted to share a quick review of how the Knitting Factor has worked in practice over the past year.

Dow, Keep America Beautiful to Award Up to Another $100,000 in Hefty® EnergyBag® Grants in 2019

The Dow Chemical Company is again teaming up with national nonprofit and long-standing collaborator Keep America Beautiful to award up to $100,000 in grants for organizations to establish Hefty® EnergyBag® programs in their communities. The Hefty® EnergyBag® program, led by Dow and Reynolds Consumer Products, offers an innovative approach to diverting hard-to-recycle plastics, such as chip bags, standup pouches, candy wrappers and juice pouches, from landfills and converting the materials into valuable resources.

Points of Light Releases Global Family Volunteering Research Findings, Underwritten by The Walt Disney Company

Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, released the “Global Volunteerism Journey Report,” a first-of-its-kind study that examines the similarities and differences in family volunteering from five countries around the world. Underwritten by The Walt Disney Company, the study was commissioned to assess the global state of volunteerism and key barriers to overcome, identify solutions and opportunities to increase family volunteering, and understand the best ways to communicate opportunities.

How Companies Can Showcase Leadership in the Face of Climate Change

The Financial Stability Board's Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) has developed recommendations that help companies disclose climate-related risks and opportunities in their financial filings and help investors make better-informed decisions. Now, TCFD is asking for companies with publicly-listed debt or equity and financial institutions to sign on in support of the effort. GRI encourages companies to join the momentum.
