Every day Elisa, a single mother of two, walks through the city of Tulcán, Ecuador, selling sheets, quilts and blankets to raise enough money to feed her children. It’s an extremely hard life but she has successfully grown a micro-business and someday hopes to be able to set up a small shop so she doesn’t have to walk to sell her wares.

Sitting in the audience as teenage girls presented business recommendations about social sharing and streaming video, I realized that there has never been a more exciting time to be at the intersection of tech and media, and that I have a lot of catching up to do!

Qualcomm Celebrates Diversity at the San Diego Pride Parade

Earlier this month I was fortunate enough to march in the San Diego Pride Parade alongside 300 other “Qualcommers,” their families, and friends. It’s the sixth year in a row that I’ve participated in this celebration of our LGBT community, and I always find it a personally rewarding experience. In a way, the parade is a reflection of our company: a diverse community, marching forward together.

Fox Audience Strategy Announces Ester Lou Weithers as the 2016 Fox Writers Intensive Fellow

Fox Audience Strategy has announced that writer Ester Lou Weithers is this year's Fox Writers Intensive (FWI) Fellow. Ester, who was selected from a group of 12 finalists announced earlier this year, has received a script development deal with FOX Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox Television. Since 2011, the FWI has nurtured experienced writers with diverse voices, backgrounds and life experiences and created a pipeline of well-rounded talent for potential staffing on FOX television shows, films and other Fox Entertainment projects.

Historic United State of Women Summit

On June 14, the White House organized the first-ever United State of Women Summit with 5,000 women, girls and men across the United States and around the globe. Leaders spanning government, corporate and nonprofit sectors convened to celebrate women’s achievements, while highlighting the work still necessary to achieve gender parity. Speakers included President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Warren Buffet. One common theme among the presentations was entrepreneurship’s potential to empower women in every sector. The daylong summit and adjoining events throughout the week also tackled the challenges preventing women’s success, including the lack of representation in STEM and dearth of support for women entrepreneurs.
