2018 proved to be an active year in Corporate Social Responsibility with issues related to sustainability, globalization, advocacy on social issues and multiple natural disasters in the forefront.

Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) and Scholarship America announced they are accepting applications for the 2019 Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship and Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant Programs. In 2016, Wells Fargo committed $2 million over a four-year period to fund the programs and assist veterans and spouses of veterans with disabilities succeed in getting the education they need for careers they choose.

Legg Mason, Inc. has introduced a new educational benefit for global employees. Beginning immediately, employees can receive reimbursement for anything they want to learn.

In spring of 2019, about 800 high school seniors nationwide who exhibit exemplary performance in academics, leadership and service will be recognized by Comcast NBCUniversal through the Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. Applications are now open for the $2,500 awards.

The scholarships can help make college attainable for students and position them for career success.

Taco Bell is well ahead of its commitment to award $10 million in Live Más Scholarships by 2020. Three years to be exact. But instead of simply celebrating the fact, the Yum! Brands chain decided to more than double that commitment to $21 million by 2021.

Hormel Foods Corporation today announced the recipients of this year’s $10,000 Hormel Heroes Scholarships. The Hormel Heroes Scholarship Program was created by Hormel Foods to support students with military backgrounds pursuing degrees in culinary arts or a foodservice management related program and is administered by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF).

High school seniors can now apply for the $40,000 Edison Scholars college scholarships. Edison International is awarding $1.2 million in scholarships to 30 high school seniors to help them follow their dreams in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) and empower them to change the world. Deadline to apply is Dec. 14.

Today, American Express, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Main Street America announced the winners of the 2018 Partners in Preservation: Main Streets campaign. The 11 winning historic sites will receive a total of $1.6 million in grants to fund their respective preservation projects. At the outset of the campaign, an additional $400,000 was allocated to the 20 Main Street communities that participated in the program to increase public awareness of the importance of these historic places and build grassroots support for the participating Main Street districts.

JetBlue and its employer-sponsored college degree program – JetBlue Scholars – was recently named a winner of the U.S. Department of Education’s “2018 Reimagining the Higher Education Ecosystem Challenge.” The U.S. Department of Education announced the winners last week at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C. JetBlue Scholars offers the airline’s crewmembers the opportunity to earn a fully-accredited associate or bachelor’s degree with JetBlue covering most of the cost.

Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have announced nearly $4 million in grants for three organizations working to provide innovative pathways to learning and training to help create mobility for workers: The Foundation for California Community Colleges (the Foundation), Code for America Labs, Inc. and edX.org.
