Members of the Whirlpool Women's Network made up the majority of volunteers during a recent event at the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency (SMCAA), where several dozen people helped pack boxes full of non-perishable food items for low-income seniors and families.

Puerto Rico Native Organizes Hurricane Relief Effort for Residents of His Former Island Home

Raised by parents who were heavily involved in the nonprofit sector, Rafael Babilonia learned early on the power of volunteerism and civic engagement. So it is no surprise that, as Hurricanes Irma and Maria threatened the Caribbean, the Puerto Rico native wasted no time in stepping up to help. He knew the devastation to the island he once called home would be substantial, so he began large-scale relief efforts before the storms had even passed.

In addition to their medical concerns, seriously ill children experience a multitude of emotional challenges including isolation, fear and uncertainty. When Paul Newman founded The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in 1988, he wanted to provide these children with a hideout where they could escape their illness and just be kids. What he didn’t anticipate was the incredible healing impact of being surrounded by others who understood the challenges they face.

JetBlue today announced it will celebrate a month of kindness and good in November with JetBlue For Good Month. Throughout this month of philanthropy and giving, JetBlue is asking customers to #CheckInForGood and enter to win a complimentary trip to volunteer with some of the airline’s non-profit partners (a). The winners will participate in trips focusing on the three pillars of the JetBlue For Good platform: youth and education, community and the environment.

America Recycles Day Marks 20th Anniversary; Focuses Nation’s Attention on Recycling Every Day

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, America Recycles Day educates people about the importance of recycling to our economy and environmental well-being, and helps to motivate occasional recyclers to become everyday recyclers. A Keep America Beautiful national initiative, America Recycles Day takes place on and in the weeks leading into Nov. 15, and is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting recycling in the United States.

Citi Foundation Expands Community Progress Makers Fund to Support U.S. Nonprofit Organizations Addressing Urban Challenges

The Citi Foundation today announced an expansion of its Community Progress Makers Fund, through an investment of an additional $20 million in leading nonprofit organizations across six U.S. cities. Organizations serving Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Francisco Bay Area and Washington, D.C., may apply for grants up to $500,000 through the open Request for Applications. The deadline is December 18, 2017.
