Tacoma Community College is expanding its efforts to guide students into careers and four‑year institutions thanks to a new $400,000 grant from the KeyBank Foundation.
This year, The Wendy’s Company Annual Frosty 5K raised $110,000 for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The event was held on July 15 in Columbus, Ohio and had more than 800 participants. The race started and ended downtown at Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers. Runners and walkers took the course through downtown, across the Scioto Mile and finished in the outfield of the minor-league stadium.
City Year, an education organization committed to the success of students and schools, announced today its partnership with Aramark (NYSE: ARMK), a global leader in food, facilities and uniforms, to redesign City Year’s uniform to better reflect City Year AmeriCorps members' critical role as Student Success Coaches in high-need schools. With this new investment, Aramark is recognized as a National Partner and continues to serve as City Year’s official Apparel Partner, providing significant in-kind support valued at $1.2 million to outfit 3,000 AmeriCorps members with the new uniform, including City Year’s signature red jacket.
Holland America Line President Orlando Ashford participated in the first-ever ESPN | Special Olympics Unified Sports Challenge, held Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the University of Washington’s Husky Ballpark. Ashford was among an exclusive group of executives who competed with employees, celebrities and Special Olympics athletes in multiple Unified Sports challenges – all to raise money for Special Olympics and the Seattle community. At the company’s spring sample sale in June, Timberland employees opened their wallets and raised $29,000 to benefit the Derry, NH Chapter of the non-profit organization, End 68 Hours of Hunger. End 68 Hours of Hunger puts nourishing food in the hands of school children in need, to carry them through the weekend. Each bag of food provides two breakfasts, two lunches, and three dinners for a child, with some left over to share.
The Derry chapter of End 68 Hours of Hunger typically feeds 70 families per week during the school year, and set a goal to expand to 120 families in fall 2018. The $29,000 donation from the Timberland sample sale, which translates into 2,900 bags of food (at $10 per bag), enables them to achieve this goal.
Pharmaceuticals and biosciences company MilliporeSigma is stopping in Laramie this week to showcase its “Curiosity Cube.” What used to be a 22 by 10-foot shipping container is now a mobile science lab with interactive experiments.
