Breaking Barriers in STEM with National Grid

Girls Inc. of Worcester is one of six Girls Inc. affiliates that participates in Girls Inc. and National Grid’s innovative STEM partnership. Since 2011, National Grid has generously provided funding to support impactful STEM programming and experiences to thousands of girls in the Northeast. To hear more about the direct impact National Grid’s support has on Girls Inc. girls, we spoke to Brenda Nikas-Hayes, the Director of Eureka! STEM & Leadership program at Girls Inc. of Worcester. Computational Thinking Helps Students Learn Language Basics in D.C. Public Schools

Ignite My Future in School’s online lesson Speak My Language helps students demystify language learning and encourages them to use computational thinking methods to quickly learn the basics and speak their new language confidently. They do so by collecting and analyzing data, finding patterns, and identifying basic words and phrases. Ignite My Future in School is an initiative that combines the best of digital content, lesson plans, career vignettes, and professional learning to help teachers prepare their students for careers of the future.

Cerritos Student Scores $40,000 Edison Scholarship

Hannah is one of 30 high school seniors selected from among 722 applicants to be awarded an Edison Scholars scholarship this year. To qualify, the recipients must live in SCE’s service area, have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA, show financial need and plan to pursue studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) at a four-year accredited college or university.
