Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) has been named to the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), including both the World and North American indices. Marking the 17th time Caterpillar has been included in the DJSI, Caterpillar leads its global peers in the Capital Goods sector in the areas of innovation management, risk and crisis management, labor practices and human rights, and corporate citizenship and philanthropy.
General Motors was again ranked on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for corporate sustainability leadership in the automotive industry. This is the second year GM has been selected as an index component and the company remains the only automaker on the North American index.
For the second year in a row, Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) was ranked by the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) as the mining industry’s overall leader in sustainability. Newmont’s inclusion on the index also marked the 10th consecutive year the company has been selected for the DJSI World. This year, the DJSI World – one of the most highly regarded sustainability indices – included 316 global companies identified as leaders in the areas of sustainable economic, environmental and social performance. Newmont was the first gold company named to the index in 2007, and has been included on the DJSI North America Index every year since 2006.
Medtronic plc (NYSE: MDT) was recognized today as one of the world's leading companies for sustainability with its ranking on the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America) for the ninth consecutive year. DJSI North America analyzes companies on a variety of sustainability criteria, including economic performance, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. This adds to the recognition Medtronic received earlier this year through its continued inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series.
