Boston Neighborhood Welcomes a New Nonprofit and a New Food-Forest Garden

Volunteers from Boston’s Dorchester area will gather to plant fruit trees to complete the set-up for the new H.E.R.O. Nurturing Center Inc. Hope Garden (H.E.R.O. is for Hope, Empathy, Redemption, Oasis), on Geneva Avenue, October 25 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The former vacant lot will serve as a community garden, food forest and gathering space for the neighborhood.

Underwritten by The Walt Disney Company, the study was commissioned to assess the global state of volunteerism and key barriers to overcome, identify solutions and opportunities to increase family volunteering, and understand the best ways to communicate opportunities.

Xylem Employees in Axminster Raise Awareness about Issues Associated with Water Scarcity

During Xylem Watermark’s October Month of Service, employees from Xylem’s office in Axminster, UK have created a simulation in which they cycle in the office to raise awareness of the 6.5km walked by women each day for approximately 20 liters of water in areas affected by water scarcity. Each morning, the employees take note of the distance cycled and calculate the equivalent amount of water carried. This information is then entered onto their water measure poster pictured below.

Consumers Energy Contributes $75,000 to Kellogg Foundation's Small Business Loan Fund

In June, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation announced a new loan fund for small businesses in Battle Creek. The target was $10 million, with the foundation committed to matching each $1 given to the fund with $2. Results presented from the first year of operation of Guardians of the Coast, one of the biggest citizen science projects in Italy, promoted by the Costa Crociere Foundation. The initiative actively involved 156 secondary schools , over 600 teachers and 5,700 students during the 2017-2018 academic year. Each school "adopted" a section of the Italian coast, covering a total of 2,610 km , equal to one third of the country's natural coastline.
