Now in its ninth year, JetBlue is bringing its Soar With Reading program straight to its hometown of New York City. The initiative is tackling book availability in underserved areas through utilizing book vending machines, allowing kids to pick up free books whenever they want, right in their own communities.

PositiveNRG Week is our annual week-long philanthropic initiative where companywide volunteer opportunities are available for employees. For the 11th year, NRG employees dedicated a week to making a positive impact in their communities. During positiveNRG Week, 952 NRG employees in 16 states volunteered at more than 70 nonprofit organizations and donated $36,500 to charitable causes.

This summer, JetBlue joined The Ocean Foundation and other local organizations to learn how to restore ecosystems that protect coastlines. These are some of the habitats that were decimated during Hurricane Maria. In addition to hands-on work, JetBlue also offered financial support to The Ocean Foundation.
Viacom’s Corporate Social Responsibility wrapped up the second year of it’s UP Creative mentoring program at Viacom headquarters with a final session and competition. UP Creative is a program that was created in partnership with an organization called Reel Works. Reel Works is a local non-profit based in Brooklyn that teaches underserved teenagers filmmaking skills that help propel them to career paths in media. Viacom has supported Reel Works for over a decade with sponsorships for programs and events, providing mentorship and job-shadowing opportunities, and access to production personnel and facilities. Apart of Viacom’s recent contributions, UP Creative is one of two sponsored programs with the goal to pair students with Viacom brand teams to create mini projects.
The dirt road got bumpier and the jungle more beautiful, with a seemingly endless variety of trees and wildlife. The villages announced themselves with their wood and straw houses. Residents sat on porches, manning micro markets and looking after children. Others were heading out, machete in hand, to tend their parcels of farmland.
