Members of TeamCITGO, the employee volunteer team at the CITGO Lemont Refinery, helped Shady Oaks Camp in Homer Glen, Ill., prepare its grounds this summer for more than 60 special needs campers for the 2015 summer session. Shady Oaks Camp holds its beautification day annually to refurbish its 30-acre facility for both children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. This year, several volunteers from the Lemont Refinery participated in this day of service.

Action for Healthy Kids® (AFHK) announces the 292 recipients of School Grants for Healthy Kids for the 2015-2016 school year, provided through funding by CSX Corporation. Awarded in 13 states, the grants aim to improve student knowledge, attitudes and behaviors around physical activity, while also engaging parents to support physical activity at home. Grants may also include a healthy eating component.

That’s precisely why we first offered Internet Essentials to low-income families with children from Head Start through 12th grade. Education, however, doesn’t just end after high school. So, today, I had the privilege of joining Colorado Lieutenant Governor and Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education Joe Garcia and President of the Colorado Community College System Nancy McCallin, Ph.D., to announce that Comcast is extending Internet Essentials, on a pilot basis, to low-income community college students across Colorado. We also announced an Internet Essentials low-income community college pilot program in Illinois, home to one of the largest community college systems in the nation. To be eligible, students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant — the nation’s largest need-based grant program.

On August 16, 2015, twenty-four AIDA Cruises students set sail for the first time from Bremerhaven with the sail training ship “Großherzogin Elisabeth.” The training trip for the 24 students of nautical science, ship operation engineering and electrical engineering for ships ended on September 4, 2015, in Rostock. Over some 21 days, the future mariners will complete their basic nautical training on the North and Baltic Sea before their first assignment onboard the AIDA fleet. In addition to the AIDA Cruises students, 18 cadets from Carnival UK are participating in this training trip once again.
