Duke Energy Renewables has announced it has ordered 24 IdentiFlight® units to be installed at its Top of the World Windpower Project in Wyoming as part of its comprehensive avian protection program.

At the time, no one individual was to blame, and humans were not intentionally trying to wipe these birds off the face of the planet. The people of the day simply weren’t aware of how their collective actions were impacting the great auks.

A transformative wildlife protection initiative in South Carolina, spearheaded by Boeing in partnership with government and private sector agencies, has earned the highest level of conservation certification from the U.S. Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) and is leading the way for similar efforts from other corporations in the state.

Our oceans program, like all of our work at Bloomberg Philanthropies, aims to ensure better, longer lives for the greatest number of people. So it’s good news that the United Nations International Coral Reef Initiative has declared 2018 the International Year of the Reef. Coral reefs are home to one in every four fish in the ocean, and are a critical backbone of ocean ecosystems. Unfortunately, climate change threatens to destroy 90 percent of reefs in the next three decades.

Since I started in 1989, I was involved with the mine’s wildlife clubs, where I developed a good sense for something that very soon became a passion.

Not many executives can say that in their first week on the job they – literally and figuratively – pulled on their boots to help restore a vacant lot in the South Bronx into a community garden. But doing just that is how I quickly began to understand and experience the Timberland philosophy of being an “Earthkeeper.”

How about today? Is it still true that the natural world exists independently from human influence? Or, on the other hand, maybe human constructs have become so pervasive that our impacts are seen in every corner of the globe.

The Arbor Day Foundation has announced finalists for its bi-annual recognition program with the winners to be announced prior to National Arbor Day on April 27, 2018. Since 1972, the Foundation has presented awards for work at the international, national, state, and community levels to recognize conservation efforts such as tree planting and care, Arbor Day celebrations, education, community projects, and roadside beautification.

As a kid, Scott Fletcher was the go-to guy to identify whatever strange-looking critters had appeared in his neighbors’ yards. When his father, a geology professor, took him and his brothers out for weekend fossil hunts in central Pennsylvania, Fletcher went searching for insects while the other two checked out the rocks. His father helped him assemble a sort of homemade natural history museum in the basement. He kept salamanders in a crate inside the house — until the smell overwhelmed his family and his dad shut-it down.

Monsanto Company has released its 2017 Sustainability Report, Growing Better Together. The report demonstrates Monsanto’s commitment to sustainability and details the company’s progress against all of its goals including improving irrigation water efficiency which has the potential to save up to 80 billion gallons of water each year.
