Jaybeth Gonzales, Slot Supervisor at Marina Bay Sands, keeps a full schedule as a working mother and an active volunteer in her free time. As a single parent of six children, Gonzalez juggles between being a mom and her career, but she still regularly volunteers and gives back to the various organizations she is involved with. Her call to volunteerism began at an early age, growing up in the Philippines where, along with her family, she would distribute Christmas presents to the street children in Manila.
Points of Light, with support from KPMG Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service, will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15 by engaging more than 90,000 individuals in acts of service through 1,575 service projects and civic dialogue events in more than 50 communities in partnership with local Points of Light affiliates and nonprofits across the country. MLK Day marks the beginning of the service year as hundreds of thousands of individuals will honor the memory of Dr. King by contributing their time, talent and voice to improve their communities.

In the midst of a water crisis in India – where 77 million people don't have access to safe drinking water – the Green Team at the Ingersoll Rand Sahibabad facility built a rainwater harvesting system to collect and filter rainwater before putting it back into the water table. This restores about 1.2 million gallons of rainwater annually, offsetting 75 percent of the water the plant uses in its operations. In addition, the Green Team reduced the facility's water consumption by 43 percent by implementing standard work and making important upgrades to its wastewater treatment plants.
Brandon Cheong, Shift Manager, Loyalty Club at Marina Bay Sands, first started volunteering while still in school at a local animal shelter after being inspired by United Nations Messenger of Peace, Dame Jane Goodall. This sparked a lifelong commitment to volunteerism as he believes in giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. He has devoted time volunteering and fundraising for Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD) and Voice for Animals (VFA).
While Clemson University came within a victory of making it to the College Football Playoff National Championship, it can claim, along with the University of Akron, the co-championship of the 2017 GameDay Recycling Challenge (GDRC), the national collegiate football recycling competition. Throughout the month of November, JetBlue customers and crewmembers checked in for good on three volunteer trips with some of the airline’s non-profit partners. More than 8,000 customers entered the #CheckInForGood contest. Nearly one hundred customers and crewmembers participated in trips focusing on the three JetBlue For Good pillars: youth and education, community and the environment.
