Juneteenth – also known as Freedom Day, Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day – is an American holiday that marks the effective end of slavery in the United States.

It's time to have hard and heartfelt conversations about the state of racism and inequity. At home. With friends and loved ones. With other members of your community. In the workplace.

Over the past few weeks, we have reported on how companies are addressing the growing demand for social justice through communications and, more importantly, action. Americans are making it loud and clear that now is the time for change. In response, companies have confronted racism and embraced feedback when they have misstepped. This week we will examine companies that are honoring Black history by making Juneteenth a company holiday:

Comerica Bank today announced its $1 million commitment over four years to the National Business League as part of a national partnership that will launch the Black Capital Access Program (BCAP), an access to capital initiative to assist Black businesses across the country.

The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. today announced a commitment of more than $1 billion to help end systemic racism and support economic empowerment of African Americans and low- and moderate-income communities.

T. Rowe Price and its Foundation announced today a $2 million commitment to organizations working to fight racial injustice. The donation is a continuation of the firm’s commitment to racial equity, which became a stronger focus following the 2015 Baltimore unrest resulting from the death of Freddie Gray.
