Wesley Community Center Increases Local Impact with $150,000 Grant from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club

Wesley Community Center is increasing its capacity to support more Houstonians with the help of a sustainability grant from the Green Mountain Energy Sun Club. The Sun Club selected Wesley to receive $150,000 for solar power, energy efficiency upgrades and resource conservation for its community center and food pantry facilities. Expected energy savings made possible by the sustainability improvements will have the potential to help Wesley provide an additional 6,000 meals each year.

Major Leaguers to Build Homes and Raise Funds for Natural Disaster Victims Through a Pair of Dallas Events in Late November

The Major League Baseball Players Trust announced it will be hosting a pair of events in Dallas, TX on Wednesday, November 29 to help provide housing for Houston flood victims and raise funds and awareness for those suffering in the wake of natural disasters in California, the Caribbean, Florida, Mexico and Texas.

Keep America Beautiful and Coca-Cola Celebrate Impact of Public Space Recycling Grants Over Past Decade; Announce 2017 Grant Opportunity

National nonprofit Keep America Beautiful and The Coca-Cola Foundation today announced the opening of the application period for the 2017 Coca-Cola Public Space Recycling Bin Grant Program. In its 11th year, the initiative is designed to expand access to recycling in public spaces in communities across America. Grant applications will be available online through Friday, Nov. 17, 2017. Loukoumi the Lamb Inspires a Good Deeds Movement, Encouraging Children to Make a Difference

Some 15 years ago, Nick Katsoris was inspired to write a series of children’s books featuring Loukoumi, a cuddly lamb named after the sweet Greek candy. And in 2009, he released “Loukoumi’s Good Deeds,” which encourages children to make a difference by pledging to do good in their communities. The book blossomed into a movement, with the launch of the Loukoumi Make A Difference Foundation, which engages thousands of children each year to make a difference in the lives of others.

Citi Foundation’s Youth Workforce Fund to Increase Access to Jobs, Including Apprenticeships and Internships, Among Youth

The Citi Foundation today announced the launch of the Youth Workforce Fund as part of its Pathways to Progress initiative to provide youth both in the U.S. and around the world with training and access to jobs, including paid apprenticeships and internships. In partnership with America’s Promise Alliance, 15 nonprofit organizations across the United States will expand their programming to provide a range of employment opportunities in various areas including environmental sustainability to robotics and culinary arts to coding.
