The electric grid powers nearly every part of daily life—from homes and hospitals to transportation and national security systems. Today, the grid is under increasing strain from unprecedented power load growth.
This week the facilities management community came together to celebrate World FM Day and honor all the men and women who support the health, safety, productivity and well-being of people who utilize the built environment. Water and wastewater systems use hundreds and sometimes thousands of data-producing instruments, but much of that information remains isolated. There is little two-way communication, so the vast amount of data stays buried, just as the water infrastructure itself is mostly buried and out of sight. Smart water programs are seeking to change all that.
2017 has been designated as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development .
According to the World Tourism Organization website, “this decision follows the recognition by global leaders at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) that “well-designed and well-managed tourism” can contribute to the three dimensions of sustainable development, to job creation and to trade.”
